HISTORY

Privately owned and operated since its founding in 1901, Bemis Manufacturing Company became a leader in toilet seat production in the 1930s, beginning with reinforced wood in 1932, and moving on to sturdy laminated wood seats. In the 1950s, Bemis led the industry in developing compression-molded wood seats, using custom-built presses and an automated painting and curing system that today still offers the finest enameled finish in the industry.

By the 1960s, the company introduced injection-molded seats and rapidly emerged as a leader in plastic molding technology. In 1975, Bemis acquired STASCO (Standard Tank and Seat Company) of Camden, New Jersey, further expanding its product offerings and sales efforts on the East Coast. The company continued to grow, in part through acquisitions including the Moldex® Seat Company in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. Company growth, in part through these acquisitions, positioned Bemis as the largest toilet seat manufacturer in North America.

Recent international efforts in Mexico, South America, Asia Pacific and Europe, including the late-1999 acquisition of Carrara & Matta, a leading Italian bathroom toilet seat and accessories firm, have further solidified the Bemis position as the world's largest manufacturer of toilet seats.
